Why Columbia House? Aren’t there other shop-at-home DVD Club membership programs?
You’d think there would be, but there aren’t!
We get paid to search the internet looking for such things and we haven’t found any. If we discover such a club, we’ll take a look. And if it provided similar deals on cheap DVDs, we’d tell you about them. Of course, we could be wrong. If you think you’ve found a good DVD membership club, please contact us and let us know.
What about the BMG DVD Club? I’ve heard they’re good.
This is a common misconception. The fact is that BMG competes head-to-head with Columbia House on CDs, but not on DVD’s… there is no BMG DVD Club!
Are these DVDs the same quality as the ones I can buy in the store?
In a word, yes!
Columbia House uses the very same manufacturing process to make their DVDs that the studios use to make theirs. All the liner notes and packaging are the same, all the special DVD features (director’s commentary, subtitles, deleted scenes, chapter index, etc.) are included.
They are – in every respect – virtually indistinguishable from the ones you buy at Walmart, Best Buy, Amazon or any other online or "brick and mortar" retailer. They are sent to you factory-sealed… if you ever get one that’s defective or damaged, return it to Colombia House for replacement or full credit to your account.
How come Columbia House doesn’t have every new release?
Columbia House has made deals with most of the top studios to make their movies available to club members. This is an additional revenue stream for the studios, as they know that some people simply won’t buy these movies at "regular" prices in retail stores.
The trade-off is that the agreement states Columbia House has to wait a month or two before making the movie available. After all, the studios want to sell as many as they can to people who are willing to pay full price soon after they hit store shelves… and only then will they allow Columbia House to offer them at a discount.
In a few isolated cases, Columbia House may not have an agreement with a particular studio to release a particular film. But there’s a heck of a lot of choice there and we’re pretty sure you can find 5 DVDs you like, especially for 49 cents each. You won’t find cheap DVDs like this from any other source!
How long will it take to get my DVD’s?
All DVDs are shipped via the U.S. Postal Service. Columbia House says you should receive your introductory package in three to four weeks. Our experience has been that it can often take far less than that – sometimes as little as two weeks.
Once you’re a member, you can see the status of any pending order by checking your account information when you visit the members-only website at colombiahouse.com.
Can you tell me more about the introductory deal?
You choose 5 DVDs and pay only 49 cents each! (Shipping and handling is just $1.99 per DVD, making the true cost for each DVD in your introductory package only $2.45). You can also choose another DVD, a 6th DVD, and buy it at a discounted price of $14.95.
Someone told me I can also get a 7th DVD for just $9.95. Is this true?

Nope. (Not unless you want one.)
Each month, you’ll be notified of what they call the "Director’s Selection." It’ll always be a hot new release. Do nothing and the Director’s Selection will be sent to you.
If you don’t want it – or prefer another selection – simply visit columbiahouse.com and let them know (or send them the response card via snail mail). If you ever get a DVD you don’t want, send it back at their expense for full credit.
What about free shipping? Doesn’t Columbia House sometimes offer free shipping?

Well, yes, we think we can.
But first, may we ask, why don’t you have a DVD player? You know, you can buy a cheap DVD player for as little as thirty or forty bucks. And as you can see, there are plenty of good deals on DVDs!
That being said, perhaps you wandered in here looking for the Columbia House Video Club? This club predated the DVD club and provided movies on VHS video. But this club stopped signing up new members as of May, 2004. If you want discount movies on VHS, your best bet is to purchase them outright from Amazon.
There are other Columbia House clubs, however.
Perhaps you’re looking for the popular Columbia House Music Club? Well. we're sorry to say that they've stopped soliciting new members,prefering to concentrate on DVD sales.
