How To Rent The Latest DVD Releases From Netflix
People often ask us, "How do you rent all the latest DVDs from Netflix? When a new movie comes out, you guys at DVD Direct 4 Less always seem to get it sent to you right away, with no waiting... how do you do that?"

Well, it's our little secret, but we're happy to share.

As you probably know, Netflix will never send you anything you haven't previously requested... the list of movies you want to see is maintained on the Netflix website and is called your "queue."

Managing Your Netflix DVD Rental Queue

You must actively manage your rental queue!

At any given time, we keep over 100 movies in our queue. But we go in there two or three times a week to add to that list. And sometimes, after careful reconsideration, we take movies off, too. If we see an advertisement for a movie in theatrical release (that we know we're not going to go to the theatre to see), we make a mental note to add it to our Netflix queue the next time we're online. We do the same thing if we see an ad for a new DVD about to be released.

How about you? Are you updating your queue on a regular basis?

Some folks don't realize that Netflix puts most films into their database long before their DVD release. So go to their website, search for a title and click "Save." Netflix will put that title in a section of your queue called "DVDs Awaiting Release." As time passes and it gets closer to the DVD's release date, Netflix will move that title to your active queue - the list of films that they will send you as you return each one.

When they do that, you'll want to "reorder" your queue so that the new titles are in the top positions. Don't worry if the release date is a little ways off... if Netflix receives a DVD from you and the DVD in the top position hasn't yet been released, they'll skip right over it and send you the next one on the list without delay.

Now, here's where the tricky part comes in...

Chances are, if you're a Netflix member, you have one or two DVDs in your home right now waiting to be watched. And if you're like most Netflix members, you do a lot of your DVD viewing on the weekends. So here's our best tip for getting new DVDs on a consistent basis: try to mail back at least one of your DVDs on Friday or Saturday (in some cases, Sunday or Monday will work, if you live very close to one of the 36 Netflix distribution centers).

Why do you want to do this?

New DVDs Are Released On Tuesdays!

Quite simply, a DVD that is mailed back to Netflix on Friday or Saturday will likely be received by them on Monday or Tuesday. Since most new DVDs are released on Tuesdays, they're technically available for shipping by Netflix as early as Monday. (Since the "customer" won't receive the DVD till its official "street date" on Tuesday, this doesn't run afoul of studio restrictions.)

When Netflix receives a DVD from you on Monday or Tuesday, you'll be among the first "in line" to be sent the new Tuesday releases. This works most of the time... and judging by our nearly 100% success rate, we're guessing a lot of other people are not using this technique!

So, to sum up... here's how to make sure you always get the latest DVDs from Netflix.

1) Add new DVDs to your queue as they get added to the Netflix database.

2) Reorder your Netflix queue so that the new titles "rise to the top."

3) Send back at least one DVD, so it arrives at Netflix no later than Tuesday... Monday is even better.
